It all started on October 14, 2005 with a forum on women's health issues in prison...

Research Inside Prison 2005-2007
Content under construction

In prison the women came up with a set of values that define our research and have ever since. They are

TRANSPARENCY OF ALL INFORMATION

1: We strive to practice a transparent process, which involves equality for all participants, a non adversarial, supportive, non-judgemental atmosphere, consensus based decision making and collaboration on research findings.

BREAKING THE CODE OF SILENCE

2: To me this means no longer living in the mind frame of isolation, today we choose to be heard and no longer be silent. We lived for much too long in the silence of addiction and old behaviours, those behaviours kept us sick. Today we are being heard and breaking the code of silence.

RESPECT FOR DIVERSITY LISTEN AND BE HEARD

3: Today we have come together as a group from all nations and life experiences to support

each other through good and bad. Respecting each other’s thoughts and goals is part of our

day to day. We listen to what each other are saying and collaborate ALL of our ideas to

make sure that OUR voices are heard.

BUILD ON STRENGTHS

4: All of us have spent way too much time focusing on the negativity in our lives. Today we

choose to focus on the positive what keeps us where we are and we share it with each other.

We all mentor one another and lend an ear, a hand or an email lol.

ALL WHO WISH TO BE INVOLVED IN THE RESEARCH PROCESS MAY BE INVOLVED

5: Women into Healing was formed inside the walls of ACCW. We are a group of women that encourage all incarcerated women to better each other’s health and wellness and join us in our journey. We also encourage you to participate in the research process. We all have learned so much from each other and look forward to continuing to be creative and heal together.
