Content under development...

Women in2 Healing created a newsletter that conveyed the writings of numerous women who have encountered the correctional system in British Columbia. Six issues of the newsletter were generated, with 250 printed copies produced for each issue, and distributed to women inside and outside of prison, community organisations who have supported the work of Women in2 Healing and academic, government and community stakeholders

The newsletter contained articles written by women still within the correctional setting and those who have been released; information from appropriate interested agencies regarding diseases and infections commonly associated with drug addiction; references to research reports and projects that are co-authored by co-investigators, research students and women associated with Women in2 Healing; information from appropriate resources and support agencies within the community; and educational “nuggets” on tips for healthy living (ie. Nutritional advice, finding a family doctor, etc..)

The newsletters have been an invaluable resource for women to share community and personal stories of success and strife, experiences in the correctional system, and information from other agencies and service providers.  These writings have enabled the women to have a voice, providing their readers with hope that it is possible to break the cycles of addiction, crime and incarceration.  In addition, the newsletters have been an important dissemination vehicle whereby community agencies and other collaborators can learn more about Women in2 Healing and the transformative processes of this community-based participatory research group.

In addition to gaining new insight and knowledge, the Women in Healing newsletter has enabled  women to reach out to other women who have also experienced incarceration and social exclusion, thereby increasing their support network.
